The Murrs

In 2021 my wife Mariah began working as a barista at a local coffee shop in Concord, NC called Groundwork (now verb coffee). Here she learned how to be a barista and also sparked my love for coffee.

In 2022, she gave birth to our first daughter, Amelia (Millie). Now that she was staying home and taking care of our newborn, we decided to take another look at our budget and realized just how much we were spending on coffee every month. This led me to try out home roasting coffee beans and “Millie Beans” was formed.

I tried several different methods including roasting on a cast iron skillet, in the oven, and after a few very smoky attempts, decided to buy an actual home roasting coffee machine (the Fresh Roast SR800 if you are wondering). This actually produced a decent consistent bean that we began to drink for the next couple of years. I began learning more about the art of roasting coffee and was always giving away bags for Christmas and birthday gifts.

In 2023, our first son August was born and in 2025 our second daughter Margot was born. Margot was born with an abnormality called Anencephaly. Due to her condition, she was unable to sustain life outside of the womb. While she was only here on this earth for a short time, her life had an impact on us that will last for an eternity. This caused us to take a deeper look at our lives and the way that we lived them.

We have always wanted to conduct family oriented business with a “homemade” feel to it that brings glory to God, and that is exactly what our mission is at what is now known as “MurrMade Coffee”. We hope that our story can encourage you and point you to Christ.
